More Development Heading to Loudoun County?

ashburn-vaLoudoun County is quickly experiencing a wide range of growth for both its businesses and for homes and residences in Ashburn, Leesburg, Sterling and more. These planned developments are bringing more business into the county, as well as new homes and industries for residents. Washington Business Journal reports that a new development, Loudoun Parkway Center South, may be in the works for the land adjacent the upcoming Metro Silver Line stations in Ashburn. This project will have commercial, hotel, civic and residential potential and is pending approval for re-zoning. Silver Line Finds Bumpy “Road”

Gearing up for the official opening of the Metro Silver Line, Phase 1 tests are underway in order to assure the safety of future passengers. Herndon Patch reports that during such testing on August 13, 2013, a Silver Line train near Wolf Trap derailed while operating at 5 mph. There were no injuries as a result of the derailment, and the train has been taken out of service. MWAA is currently investigating the incident, and testing is expected to continue as scheduled in order to meet the deadline for public passengers in January, 2014. Eyes are “Popping” over the Future of Tyson’s

Putting the “rail before the residents” may seem like an interesting way to promote growth in an area, but, once that train is ready to roll, the problem of accommodating the needs of those residents can become just as important. The Washington Post reports that a unique solution is being discussed; “pop-up businesses.” These temporary businesses would act as place holders for permanent retail, food or other establishments surrounding Silver Line stations, giving Northern Virginia residents a unique experience that has seen many benefits in places like Washington or cities in Europe.
